Re: RC: pregnant mares and endurance
I did it this year and it didn't harm Scarlet or her foal at all. We
stayed within her comfort zone -- LD's, instead of moving up to 50's like
the original plan. In other words, don't push her. If she's used to
riding so much a week, then you can keep on doing that until she says
quit. Scarlet is pretty vocal about quit time and she LOVES to head out
the gate. She's 8 months now and we're still heading down the trail,
although we're through with distance riding until fall. She did her last
ride on 12/30/00 and after a slow first loop (12.5 miles at 3 hours), I
let her pick her own pace for the second loop and we finished it in 1
hour 15 minutes! This girl hates to be passed up.
Check your ride forms. Here in TX, there were no restrictions, but the
lady who bought my boy, Kid, says that in S. CA, pregos are restricted
from rides.
