Thanks for replying to my post. Yes my horse will have 24/7 access to this 48x24 paddock, it will be her own personal paddock,we don't have more than just an overhang for shelter (S. CA).
I think the problem with shoes and pasture here is that they worry about damage to the other horses, not so much to the pasture (pasture is mostly dry lot anyway). I don't understand this as I had a barefoot horse get in a tuffle, and she did a lot of damage without shoes on.
My mare is getting over an injury, but when she can be worked again, she will get plenty of exercise. I ride 4 to 5 days a week (alternating work and terrain), and I want to make sure that once she's fit, she'll have the room to roam on her days off, or when I have to go out of town.
I just want to hear from people, like yourself, who get by without large pasture, the alternatives, and how the horses cope. It's good to hear your horses do well.
