Re: Seat size nonsense
Just for general informational purposes, english type saddles
come in with smaller seat size measurements because they are measured on the
diagonal, between the little metal button by the breastcollar ring diagonally up
to the middle rear of the seat(cantle). Western types are measured from
the back of the fork to the top of the cantle, so perhaps measure more
accurately. There is something else to recognize, tho. I look at
seat jockey lenght...the measurement for the thigh area, which is between the
base of the fork and the base of the cantle. If the tree has the fork
angled forward, it can give a bigger seat measurement to a saddle with a small
thigh area.
Generally speaking, seat sizeds for western saddles would
be: 14 1/2 X-small adult seat. 15" medium adult seat, 16" large adult
seat.
