stifle injury

I am trying to come to terms with the fact that my
horsie might have landed himself a new career as "pet".
He has been lame at the walk over 4 months now =(
He has been improving a bit, but I am starting to
wonder if he is ever really going to recover.  The
vet won't say one way or another.

Anyone here ever had experience with a horse injuring
cruciate and/or collateral ligaments of the stifle?
If so what was the outcome?
