I think this might have happened with a 50 mile ride,  in Oregon,  in the early 80's or late 70's.

I remember someone, maybe more than one, saying they could do it.  (Some of those rides were being won in under 4 hrs, with only stop and go Vet checks, pulse of 72)

 

I think there is an AERC rule that says you can only ride once per event that came because of this possibility.

 

Don't know if it ever happened.
