Akhel Teke
Did I spell that right? Anyway, I have been looking
at the stallions of this breed both here and abroad. There is one stallion in
Texas that I think looks like the ideal athlete. Why don't I see more of this
breed at rides? I am in Florida, so I only ride in the SE division, but would I
see more out west? Up north? Where?? Would an Arabian/ Akhel cross be something
to consider? Is anyone doing this? I know Bazy crossed the Curly with Arabians
but the Curly is not very attractive. No offense to anyone who owns one. I
have yet to see one that got any refinement or pretty looks of the Arab and if I
am going to look at a horse 24/7/365, it better be purty. At least cute. Now the
Akhel isn't beautiful, but it has that greyhound look. Very fit and athletic and
a pretty shiny coat. I talked to Margo Case a few years back when I first
started looking at the Akhel and she said at that time there were very few in
the US. That seems to be the case still, according to the web site. I
think the Arab/Akhel would be the ideal cross for endurance. I considered
breeding my mare to one but picked Desperado V instead. Still an excellent
choice and I thought a purebred would be best. I'm just real darn curious about
this breed and how would they do in endurance. Anybody have one? I know there
are lots of comments dying to come off your keyboards! Type me!! Lisa Salas, The
