Leases/ horse selling

Rhonda; I've actually had a person ask me if she could try my horse out for a couple of months and then give it back if she didn't like it, and she didn't want to pay until she made that decision.  In other words, "Can I use your horse for free all summer, and then return it when I'm done playing around with it".   My shoer also warned me that  he has heard of some people who go out to try horses many many times, with no intention of buying. They just want to go riding, and use someone else's stuff, so they can get a free ride.   I do have neighbors who sell horse's every year or so, and they will take a full check for the horse, but not cash it for two weeks, to let the buyer try the horse out. Seriously folks, is there a rider on ridecamp that doesn't know within  a couple rides, if they like the horse or not? Can't some of you just look at the horse, and say, "Naaah".  or look at it and say, "Yesss!!!"   These extended leases sound just exactly like what they are. Someone is leasing the horse for some purpose that they have, and  that purpose is not necessarily to buy the horse. Most recently I had some people come to look at the mare I'm selling, and although the daughter/rider liked the horse very well, looking quite nice on it, the dad was complaining..."Well, I really like geldings. And your horse has shoes on it, and we don't like to use shoes.  Well I really like younger horses, Well she's gonna need the horse for shows, and I don't know if your horse will have enough endurance, it's only a trail horse, and the shows are very strenuous you know! "  (hear that RC? Shows are more strenuous than 8 hour trail rides)   Hello mister, if you didn't like the idea of a grey mare trail horse, why the hell did you take up my Saturday  cleaning the horse, and presenting it to you.  At least he didn't ask to lease it free for the show season! Rhonda I would advise you not to waste your time with idiot buyers, cut them loose at the first indication, 'cause  your time is too valuable for that.   Good luck Rhonda on your horse selling experiences, mine have totally sucked, I wish you better luck.   Beth
