leases

Just getting in on the tail end of the conversation on
leases...but, we sold a gelding to a family that had really done
alot of looking at horses for their daughter. They even asked
us to look at a couple...then one they had a 2 week trial period
on one and we trialered for them ...I couldn't believe what the
gal sent home with them and I knew the gal (or so I thought) and
when she told me that this was a lesson horse and showed and
just really did good with people I thought he'd be perfect for
this little gal. Well, needless to say he went back as he was
"lame" and not just alittle stiff in the shoulder like she told
me...then she got mad as the buyers took him to a big clinic had
him looked at and the vet said for the price he didn't feel he
should spend their money anymore and didn't go beyond flexing
and hoof testing and trotting out...that's how lame this horse
was plus he dragged me across the driveway ( and I'm far from a
featherweight so I was not happy with the seller)

Anyhow, (can you tell I like to talk) we sold this family a
gelding and had a lease for 3 months with them where they used
the horse as he was their own (paying all expenses) but, they
boarded him here during that time and then if, at the end of 3
months they felt they wanted to make the arrangement permanent
the 3 month board would go toward purchase price. This worked
great for us as we could keep an eye on the horse and
family...help them when needed yet boost their confidence in
dealing with the horse. This arrangement was wonderful for all
parties. They now took DC home and are having a great time with
him.
