<another time! a horse broke a snap and the little metal piece in it hit me like a bullet. Now if horses pull back, like really sitting back on their lead line, I bail out, avoiding the "bullet effect". >
Dear Beth;
Same thing happened to me once.  Have a really nice scar in my right hand, base of my index finger from it.  I remember the mark somewhat fondly, tho...as my best endurance mare Teza was the one that inflicted it, then a youngster, now 21 and the kid's mare;  it was my then-friend/now husband who dropped everything he was doing at work to rush me to the hospital for stitches.
Brass breaks because it is often a brass plating that covers some pot metal stuff.
