  Just playing devils advocate here..but... what

happens when ur horse has his head down to eat or

drink, something startles it and some how he manages

to get a hoof caught up in the tie down or the tie

down caught in a root or immovable rock?
 
 
Remember the fight we had about the safety of roping reins?
 
My solution is to use brass snaps that will break under full pressure.  This  would be my solution for the tie -down problem as well.
 
I do see them with stainless steel snaps and I shudder.
 
I'm about to try a running martingale for the first time, and I assure you, there will be brass snaps all around.  :)
