Mares often make fabulous endurance horses. Many people simply prefer geldings because they are more "convenient". Some mares can be obnoxious with personality changes relative to their heat cycles--however, the majority can minimize cyclic behavior changes when working. Physiologically, mares are survivors, and as such, are well suited to endurance.
