re:lightning, metal buildings etc
Kris,
Inside a metal building that is well grounded (has metal running into
the ground) is a safe spot to be in a lightning storm. The metal shell
will conduct the lightning to the ground in event of a direct strike so
it doesn't have to find a path that may go through you or your horse. I
wonder if lightning rods may be a lost technology. What with surge
protectors and home owners assoc.'s that dont want metal sticking up
from anyone's roof, perhaps builders don't think in terms of installing
them anymore. Will wait to hear if any electrical experts jump in with
knowledge that they may increase danger in some cases.
Kirsten, so sorry to hear about those horses. A terrible accident that
could happen to any of our horses.
