Since LDs aren't just for beginners - not according to what Julie wrote - I 
have this question: What if every LD rider who showed up at that ride had 
about 50 years of endurance experience?  What would the point of a "gate 
mom" be then, except to act as a welcome committee.  Nice thought, to have 
a welcome committee, but doesn't this presume that every LD rider needs - 
or wants - help?
