english vs. western

I have ridden in western saddles my whole life but I'm considering switching to english for various reasons. Has anybody tried the wintec english saddles? Do the changeable gullets really work?  How do you measure for an english girth? Everybody I know rides western so I have nobody to ask. I am considering the wintec pro endurance  or the wintec new generation 2000 all purpose. I'm totally lost with the whole tack issue. What does everybody prefer (english/western) for those long rides and why? You can email me privatly if you don't want to clutter the list.
