Last time I sent a horse out via commercial transport we had a near 
disaster with loading too.  I wanted to load the mare but they wouldn't let 
me - "insurance concerns".  But they were lousy horse handlers, too rushed 
and impatient.  The mare whigged out and ran off - she couldn't leave our 
property but she was dragging a long rope (they were trying to use a butt 
rope to force her in - she really would have loaded just fine if they'd 
just have let her sniff the trailer and get comfortable with it first) and 
ran off up the mesa side into the trees.  It took 4 people 45 minutes to 
find her - I had visions of broken necks, legs, etc.

Next time I use commercial transport I'm going to quiz the handlers before 
hiring them.
