Re: RC: Saddles

On the Synergist, I have the english, DSS version, which I love. They are
in the higher price range ($1800+-) and are superb quality. There was NO
breaking in time and it is the first saddle I have ever had that my seat
bones are not in agony. You do have to have a pretty standard horse for
this saddle to fit since they have 2 tree sizes (medium and wide) and don't
do custom trees. I am fortunate that it fits the three horses that I ride.
I have only used this saddle for one ride (a 25 CTR) and the horse had no
soreness issues because of the saddle. This horse, BTW, is the hardest of
the three to fit: a wide, short backed, substantial withered Arab. The
saddle is also used on a very typey QH and a Standardbred. All of these
horses are fit with the regular tree, which seems to be on the wide side.

The biggest problem I have is getting a good quality saddle pad that fits.
Because of the silhouette, most pads are too small. I was riding in this
saddle the other day and the pad (even with velcro) managed to work its way
loose and shot out the back of my saddle. The horse I was riding really
appreciated that. I like the Toklat woolback pads, so I think I am going to
have one custom made to a tracing.

The other thing with this saddle is that you have to hang the stirrup
leathers upside down. Has anyone done this and could you email privately
with how to do this, including if I need the equivalent of a keeper and if I
need to trim the excess? Thanks,

Carolyn Burgess
