Re: Colic
Thoughts on colic: Always call the vet, even
if it's a mild case of 'gas colic'.
My vet has also changed her opinion about 'walking'
for hours and says that walking is not necessary but don't let the horse
get down and roll, roll, roll.
I only give Banamine if my vet oks this and she
cannot get there immediately.
Loading a horse into a trailer and taking a drive
will sometimes work with a mild case--a horse's nervous system goes into
overdrive when a horse is loaded into a trailer. If not impacted,
this method will work because we all know that the moment you close the trailer
door, the horse will take a dump. (Especially if you just spent half a day
cleaning said trailer ~S~)
We should all be familiar with the signs of
colic--some are subtle, some are outright blatant and have an emergency plan in
place. Colic is still the #1 killer of horses.
