Driving is a whole new ball game.  The gelding I recently started (and
really that is a mis-nomer as he had been ground driven for a long time, had
pulled logs with a lariet rope and had a ton of other related experience.)
When it came to the hitching part, I used a professional to help and guide
me.  We are still and will be for some time, taking lessons etc.  I knew I
wanted to drive this guy and many of the past work he has done was directed
to that eventual end.  It has also been my experience that some mares are
very nervous about their rear ends.  In fact thank goodness for AI
