Waterhunt hero
The Waterhunt 50 was held last weekend. A tough 50 in southern
California. The management warns about being isolated from help as the ride goes
through beautiful but deep and narrow canyons for many miles with no vehicle
access. As we descended down into the 2nd canyon on the isolated section we
approached the first stream crossing in many miles. There was a line
waiting to get to the stream on the narrow trail. This was kind of surprising as
only about 28 people showed up for this ride due to it's difficulty. We found a
different way into the stream so our horses could drink. After drinking we
continued on through the brush and rejoined the trail. Then Tammy Robinson asked
if anyone had any Banamine. Apparently another ladies horse was having problems.
So that was the reason for the large backup I guess. I went back and asked what
the problem was. Tammy indicated a mild colic. Tammy stayed with the lady
and horse while the rest went on. I heard Tammy got the horse out by tailing the
owner who pulled the horse along. I know they spent a long time down in those
canyons and steep trails to get that horse out to the vet check about 10 miles
away. Tammy was late to dinner after completing the ride. I'm sure the owner is
grateful for the help and I hope the horse did OK.
On a positive note, the ride was great
again, the scenery so beautiful and the horses so awesome to complete this type
of ride.
