Re: RC: Do I need 4WD?
IMHO scrap the dually option and look for 4WD. In Endurance, we park in
strange places, like pastures, which have a habit of becoming mud when
it rains. Or we climb winding mountain roads to a vet check. I watched
numerous people being pulled around at Leatherwood by a tractor because
it was not muddy, but just slick from rain. If you're gonna do a lot of
rides, you will thank your lucky stars you got it. The truck you are
looking at is perfect for pulling a 6 horse air conditioned trailer on
pavement to horse shows with a nice flat parking lot. That's what the
dually does. It handles lots of weight on the bed. The additional
"traction" you get is negligible because those 4 wheels are on the same
axle. It also rides harder, is more of a gas hog, and costs more for
tires. Look for a 3/4 ton diesel (not dually) with 4WD and a towing
package. You won't regret it. I've been towing "something" for almost
30 years....been there and done that...won't own another truck without
4WD.
