High Desert Classic
This ride in Fallon Nevada was in memory of Doris Anderson, who completed
over 15,000 AERC miles in her life time. Her husband Dean was there reliving
old memories. Weather was cool but dry after rain all Friday night, it
stopped around 5:am. Man made roads were the slickest, but the washes and
canyons were in perfect condition for the horses. An honest 50 mile tough
ride. No pulls on the 50 or the 30 miler.
Cliffy Lewis, age 3, completed his first 50 mile ride in high spirits with a
big grin-his horse, Spiderman, age 30+, also looked like he had a nice
stroll. Cliffy came down the road to the finish line with his dad, Tom, who
ponied Spiderman, and his grandfather, Cliff Lewis. Three grey horses,
three generations, back drop of snow covered mountains, in the land they love
and know so well, a day shared together, was a fitting end to this beautiful
and well managed ride. Basecamp was an old working ranch that now belongs to
the Federal Govt. plenty of space to park. Nancy and Zip are putting it on
again next year. This ride is one that shouldn't be missed.
