RE: melanoma I think
Deb
My
mare Ellie had melanoma's all over her back this winter as a result of being out
in the Texas sun last summer - she's grey with black skin too. I took her
to the vet, and he said they won't go away even if he excised them - that they
will just keep growing back. So, I went back home thinking I would just
have to get thick saddle pads - but my barn manager John said he had a
homeopathic remedy he wanted to try. Now, my gelding's mast cell tumor was
'cured' through homeopathic remedy when three other vets all said "cut!", so I
was more than ready to listen. John's wife mixed up a gel based on
calendula, and over the next two weeks, Ellie got a 2x daily application
directly on the lumps. The lumps became soft instead of hard, and came
down dramatically in size. We dubbed the magic potion "ellie jelly."
All I can recommend is that you 1) get your horse a fly/sun sheet for this
summer and 2) go to a health store and ask about any similar gels or magic
potions. Good luck!

Hi. I have a
7 yr. old appy mare I noticed just a couple of days ago has a
round hard
lump on her foreleg right where it meets the chest. It's actually
on the
chest a little. The lump is between the size of a pea and a marble. My
riding instructor was looking at it and squeezed it like a pimple and some
black old blood came out. It went down but was back up the next day.
I
hadn't noticed it before. The vet said it may be a melanoma and he
suggested it be taken off. He said horses that are grey with black skin
are
more susceptible to getting these. Don't know about taking it off tho.
Does
anyone have any opinions or had experience with problems in taking
this off?
Is it worth the time and money to do so? Thanks. Deb
