RE: anterior enteritis
I am not sure if there are any correlations, but my horse (Ali Pazzazz/2000
at 38 miles of Longstreet's Charge 50/june)
coliced and at the ride the attending vet said he thought he was suffering
from a spastic illeus type colic.
I left the ride at about 11:00pm headed for UT, but did'nt get to UT until
5:30am and after they ran all their tests and what not, their final
diagnoses was an impaction type colic.
I believe that he was recovering by the time I got to UT because all they
ended up doing was various blood work, ultrasound and palpation. Nothing in
the tests showed up abnormal except that he was still dehydrated.
What exactly is this anterior enteritis? Can this only be diagnosed
surgically during a bout of colic?
As far as records, I too keep rather complete/detailed records, and this
horse too was on daily wormer.

If anyone decides to look into this and compiles a list of endurance horses
who suffered anterior enteritis during an endurance ride, please
contact me. I have documentation from Mich. State Un. of finding
anterior enteritis during surgical abd. exploration.
(Major Attraction/1994 at 80 miles of White River 100/April)
I still have the records on everything he had received at the time,
in terms of Strongid C (yes), feed, electrolytes, prior training records,
travel/ride conditions etc if any other correlations can be found.
