Hi; I used to show, including halter, and I used to do all the cosmetic stuff to the horses. Clipping, bathing, blanketing, bagging the tails (still do that-habit) and sweating. Sweating necks is IMO, a waste of time. Perhaps you can sweat the neck down a little, but if you could sweat it enough to actually change the horse's conformation, you would really dehydrate the horse, and they wouldn't show well anyway. You can try trimming a pretty bridle path, a fitness program of exercising the horse so it presents in the show ring with nice muscle tone, and groom it very well. A fit halter horse will also show more animation than an out of shape horse. As for endurance, the only time I ever brought the neck sweat(actually a neoprene neck cover) was in the mountains, and I thought it may be freezing and it could warm the horse up who was clipped. But didn't need it anyway (had a hood available too) I really doubt anyone in distance sweats necks. They are more concerned with keeping the horse fit, at a healthy weight, and well hydrated. Beth
