I read somewhere that if you do tie you should tie them long enough so that they CAN get their heads down, something about clearing their throat and nostrils when they need to. So if you tie them that long why bother? I just leave the rope in the manger and clip it back on before we open the door.

What I meant was when you trailer a horse. Some people tie and some people
do not. The idea seemed to be you tie to keep the horse steady and he can't
get his head down and maybe get hurt with a sudden stop. The idea to keep
them untied was to give them more opportunity to move their head around and
maybe not get caught in case of accident. mb
