PA riders - potential trail needs your input
I somehow got into this because of my participation on list for trail
planners. If there is anyone who is interested in getting involved with
this project please contact Harry Tucci as indicated below. I'm not much
help to him down here in Va but I have encouraged him to include the
horsefolks on this planning committee and now he is just waiting for someone
to step forward to help give input into this potential rail trail project.
This looks like a golden opportunity to get involved in the early stages of
what could be a huge trail system.

....... <SNIP>
I would like to update you on our situation.
We have since had two Board meetings and we are actively
pursuing almost 60 mile worth of abandoned or soon to be
abandoned railroad lines. This mileage will intersect with
exiting or under construction trails that will allow us an
extensive network reaching from Philadelphia to Lancaster and
from Wilmington to Reading.
We need all the help we can get from potential trail users to
overcome local objections to trails and sure could use some
help from any trail riders in our area. We will be meeting
again on 1/18 at 6:30PM and if someone wished to attend to
represent the interests of the equestrian community their
participation sure would be welcomed!
Thanks,
Harry J. Tucci Jr.

Subject: New Rails to Trails Group in Pennsylvania
I wanted to let everyone know that a new organization is forming to
actively promote the conversion of abandoned rail lines in Eastern PA
into a wide variety of trail uses.
We have identifed close to 750 miles of abandoned rail lines in 7
counties at present and are surveying each line in detail to
determine its feasibility for conversion. When the lines suitable
for conversion are finally identified we will agrressively pursue the
acquistion of these lines. It is not our intention so much to fully
develop each trail, as it is to serve as a catlysts for future trail
development.
We believe that we must acquire the corridors as soon as possible to
prevent further degradation through encroachments or reversionary
intersts. I have assmebled a small Board of Directors with more than
30 years of Rail to Trail experience but am looking for more people
who want to serve on the Board or would be interested in serving as
volunteers.
We are working closely with the Schuykill River Greenway Association,
manager of almost 40 miles of Rail Trails, and have been in contact
with other groups as well, including the Rails to Trails Conservancy
If you know of any one who would like to be of assistance please have
them contact me.
Thanks,
Harry J. Tucci Jr.
