Judy,This isn't necessarily true. We have a variety of sizes and shapes
of horses and riders at our barn, all using sports saddles, and one mare
even with a balanced junior was getting white hair with just a single
pad, even a nice one. We currently double pad everyone except 2 mares,
one who is very round and the other who is built round and the owner is
trying a triple-thick pad on hers. I'm the only heavyweight (and I try
to ride balanced though I'll admit I'm far from perfect), but have had
very good results with a Reinsman pad and a foam one over it. Looks
bulky but works well. So no, it's not difficult to pad one, but a lot
depends on the build of the horse as well as the rider.
