     Hi Terri, I don't think arabs are all that different from
other horses.  My 15 yo racking horse acts like you describe --
in the early spring, when I ride with a strange group of horses.
In fact, he's always pretty squirrely (although not as bad as that early
spring riding) around a group of horses the 'first day' or 
first 10-15 miles.
