bit weight

I just got a new full cheek bit - it weights a hefty one pound.  I wonder if
this is going to feel heavy for the horse.  Basically the bit is sitting at
the end of a lever (the horse's head).  Wouldn't this feel terribly heavy
after a few hours of work??  Does anyone else worry about this or is this
pure paranoia on my part? :-)
