When I used egg bars on Rockets feet, he stepped on them, mangled them, and pulled them off pretty regularly. When he was shod normally (with a little shoe coming off the back) he remained sound & never yanked them off. In our case, it changed his foot fall just enough to be a problem. It never looked like he traveled that close from front to back, but evidently he did. He also protested cantering in them. I'm not sure if the shoe made his rear feet land & stick differently, but he really protested cantering under saddle and at liberty. When we pulled them, whe was back to normal.
