If you've done things right, the teen years should be some of the
best for your horse. The prime age for international-level comp-
etition is 13. My horse Shatir didn't start top-tenning the
Tevis until he was 14. Then he got four top tens up until his
tenth Tevis finish at age 19. He never had any injuries, and was a
a horse who knew his limits. (He's 24 and still going strong, I
rode him on xmas day and he tried to run away with me.) They
might not have the speed for 50's, but they get stronger for
100's.
