I think this message came from another source, but anyway I'm giving my 2 
cents worth.  I led my mare up to a step the first time I tried to use the 
mounting block routine.  She was all over the place.  I just kept correcting 
her, patiently, until she finally gave up hopping up and down and trying to 
move out without me.  It took some time, but she finally figured out that she 
wasn't going anywhere until I was in the saddle.  A few more times like that 
and she got the picture; now it's accepted routine.
