heart score system

In ... And Ride Away Singing by Bazy Tankersley she refers to a heart score 
system on pgs. 229-230.  There is a heart size measurement machine .  Dr. 
Fregin , the director of the Marion du Pont Equine Medical Center at 
Leesburg, Virginia  measured  the heart score of several Al-Marah horses.  Is 
anyone else doing this?  I am shopping for a stallion and a high heart score 
measurement certainly would be desirable.
