Well, the force of impact has to be dissipated somewhere. (A mechanical
engineer could probably explian this.)In her case, by the skull fracture. In
some (probably most) cases such impact would be absorbed by the helmet with
no other problems. In some cases the amount of impact is so great the helmet
doesn't absorb it all and it transfers to the spinal column & the neck
breaks.
I'll continue to wear a helmet & hope it's enough!!! If the brains scramble
first, does it matter if the neck isn't broken??
