Hellll-mets!
Some while back someone told a story about being out on a training ride and
coming up behind some packers or cowboys on a single track. The guy in the
rear yelled, "Hellll-mets!" and without a backward glance the riders yielded
the trail. I love that story! Wish I'd saved it so I could tell you who
wrote it.
Since someone brought it up, I like the little Troxel brim. A big brim
makes me feel that my vision is impaired. I don't know what I expect to SEE
up there but I don't want to miss it. These tales of helmets that seem okay
but have hidden structural damage are freaking me out. I'm thinking I
should send mine in for a checkover. I'd have to get a new one for the
interim! Maybe in a stylish color. It would be my only stylish accessory.
I did some riding in the mountains last summer. Lot of packers up there,
and a rugged bunch they are. There were no obvious snickers about my
helmet - not that I'd care. They did admire my sturdy horse (iz'zat an
Ay-rab?) and my ancient leggings (did'ja make 'em?) (no, they've just been
repaired a lot and have achieved a burnished, hand-hewn look).
