RE: Re: helmets

Well, I was going to skip sharing my particularly embarassing experience at
the Warner Springs ride in January, but now its germane to the discussion.
Water and gatorade stop at mile 25 (as in been out long enough for the fool
horse to have got over the spooks - NOT). Nice volunteer lady hands my son
a cup of gatorade over the neck of Caer Donn, who is standing, stopped, head
down. Crakly sound of the cup sends Caer Donn into a forward leaping spook.
Best I can tell from the brusises, I somersalted off to the rear and made a
three point landing: knees and forehead. My memory is missing the seven
minutes from seeing the gatorade cup to 3/4's of a mile down the trail,
when I looked over at my son and said. "What just happened?" He proceeded
to tell me I had fallen off, the horse had run into the street, volunteers
caught Caer Donn and brought him back, whereupon, I remounted and rode on.
Don't remember any of it. Came back to camp to find I had a goosegg above
my left eyebrow and a cracked helmet.

Tuck and roll? Bwaahhhhh. Hit the ground before my eyes had time to focus.
Wear your helmet every time you get on!

Note: Caer Donn was Top 5 BC, as he was obviously still full of %&$^# after
25 miles.
