        If you crochet (or know someone who does) -- I have a pair of "ear
covers" that are crocheted---a little round circular bit, a little tighter
on the outside of the circle--with a chain-stitch loop to hold them on the
ear.    I don't know how to give you the pattern--but I'll bet with a little
practice someone could come up with this.   They are great for keeping the
cold out---they are light weight and don't get in the way of anything.
