Re: FEI
Wendy,
Two weeks ago, I attended the USET
hosted endurance seminar in Galena ILL.
I attended as an auditor. I can only say
that if any of you have the opportunity to attend
one of these.......GO!
It was time well-spent and the cost
was nominal. Mary Lutz is the
USET Director of Endurance
Activities and the organizer of this
event. She spared no expense/effort
in bringing in the best clinicians and was
very welcoming to both participants and
the few auditors who braved the cold weather
to attend.
Seminars were conducted with regard to saddle fitting,
dental, chiropractic, TTeam, nutrition and
travel(overseas). Information on FEI
requirements, statistics, pit crewing was
also presented. Excellent information!
This experience really debunked the myths
regarding FEI that I have been reading on Ridecamp posts.
In actuality, there are very few differences.
Most of these differences seem to be focused
on the well-being of the horse and creating a level
playing field. For those ridecamp members who
posted with concern in regard to the large
percentage of pulled horses at FEI rides, I
would submit that is due to very strict
vetting. This would be with the horse's welfare
in mind. Zero tolerance for lameness is my
understanding. Some major differences in
pit-crewing and vet check presentation.
These require rider and crew to be fully aware
of the rules, as ignorance of such would likely
not considered to be a valid excuse. I would
expect no less from this level of competition.
I have not myself attended or participated in an
FEI ride (yet), so of course I am not speaking
from personal experience. Wendy seems to
have covered that very well. I might suggest
that you find out who in your region is competing
at FEI events, and contact them for info/resources.
Look up the USA Chef d'quippe (sp?) and perhaps contact
that person.
