Ticks be gone!
Sarah Zegers trailsz@webtv.net
Believe it or not, "Showsheen" (the coat poish stuff) really helps repel
ticks. A friend of mine discovered this years ago one spring when the ticks were about to devour our horses. Bath your horse well, then apply a liberal spray of Showsheen, paying special attention to tail (really saturate the tailbone area),
legs, base of mane, etc. (Avoid the girth and saddle pad area or you'll risk having a revolving sadddle!)
Of course, if your horse has any tendancy toward skin allergies from this type of product, don't try this!
It worked well for me and others I know of. Our horses were tick-free and VERY clean! We theorize that ticks just
aren't able to get a good grip on a well "Sheened" horse, or that they just sort of ski off!
Once again, I emphasize: DO NOT apply this to the saddle or girth areas, nor to any part of the mane that your might want to grab on to because it makes the hair coat REAL slippery (like Teflon!). Good Luck!
