I disagree. E-mail spelling DOES matter. Lazy habits, like misspelling, often
transfer over to other modes of written communication. For instance, if
someone applying for a job at my company sends me a resume that's misspelled,
I throw it into the reject pile without even reading it. I have too many
other resumes to read to waste the time trying to decipher a poorly spelled
one.
A misspelled and grammatically flawed resume tells me that the writer
doesn't care enough to spell correctly. So then, I can only assume that he or
she will do her work the very same way. I won't hire someone who's too lazy
to spell correctly, or even have the courtesy to use the spell check feature
on their word processor.
I am NOT a teacher. I will say that you should try to spell correctly, every
single time you write, no matter if it's a master's dissertation or a grocery
list.
