split reins

okay, here is a situation
you have split reins...but you also have a big bit with shanks and a chin 
strap-picture the biggest bit. :)
your horse's reins are dangling on the ground as he runs away....he steps on 
his loose split rein.
wouldn't this REALLY hurt his jaw.  
He could easily step on one-piece reins too but I don't see why he couldn't 
step on his split reins.
