Re: RC: Electric Fencing information needed
We use tape plus electric wire plus regular twisted (barbless) wire. The
top wire is on a kind of T-post that Paul made so that there is a double
wire, one line of which sticks into the pen about 12", the other sticks out
on the outside the same distance. Then the fencing below alternates
between tape and the twisted, non-electrified wire.
The insulators do break all the time, and also the tape and wires must be
kept taut so that the non-electrified twisted wire doesn't touch the hot
wire. This is a big pain in the butt, but for feisty studs this
combination seems to really do the trick. In dry climates like ours (and
Egypt!) the soil that the ground wire goes to must be kept moist, so keep
that in mind. We have a small solar panel and a regular car battery to
supply our fence power and have never had a problem with it not working,
even though the system is relatively old. Lif
