Try John Lyons' method. Hug, love, and generally bug the crap out of their
head and face area almost to the point of irritating them. Be nice about it.
BUT- once they open their mouths in any way as a form of nip or bite, you
must "kill" them for three seconds. The rules: you cannot use anything that
will cut or maim them (anything else including your hands will do though-
John spares no expense doing this part - he says to really lose your temper
for three seconds and make them think you are killing them (it's about the
only time John says he will treat a horse this way). Also, no horse is too
young for this- it WORKS! I have a two year old range raised stud colt; very
mouthy as you can imagine when I got him. With Johns' method, he doesn't bite
anymore, and is real pleasant to be around. And the best thing? He's not head
shy, I never have to poke, jab, jerk his head or knock him around. I've only
had to "kill" him three times, but I fool with his head every day. It's
amazing, and so against what you'd expect, but it works, and it's easy.
Good luck. He also has a audio cassette about biting out that costs about
$5.00. Check it out on his website Johnlyons.com
