Director-at-Large Election
Jim Baldwin is running or AERC Director at Large and asked
me to forward this to Ridecamp:
===========================
Greetings,
As most of you know the Director-at-Large elections are underway. The
ballots were sent out this past week and the process will pick eight
directors to serve a two year term. I have been on the board as a regional
director for three terms and as a director-at-large for one term. I am not
gererally one to "toot my own horn" so to speak but I would like for you to
consider the following:
In the time I have been a director at large I have:
1.
1. made all of the board meetings.
2. made all of the committee meetings that did not
conflict with other meetings.
3. Served on the protest and grievence committee.
4. Served on the competitions committee.
5. Served on the veterinary committee.
6. Went to forty six endurance rides.
7. Worked two Tevis rides, two Festival of Champions, one
Pan-American, all four National Championships as a
volunteer veterinarian i.e. no cost to AERC,
both World Championships plus other local rides.
8. Served as team vet at international rides.
9. Rode six rides.
10. My wife and I put on a ride each year.
11. Have worked international rides in Spain, Syria,
Portugal, Egypt, France, Jordan, Bahrain, Canada and
the United Arab Emirates.
12. Have pushed for integrity and adherence to the rules
both domestically and internationally.
13. Believed firmly in the concept of "to finish is to
win" but not in the concept of "to enter is to
finish". I feel like every time someone finishes that did
not complete properly it cheapens the accomplishment of
those that did it properly.
14. Believed firmly that our sport is big enough to have
room for all divisions of endurance riding from
limited distance, traditional (50 to 100 mile rides),
multiday, special events, and international.
15. Recognized that only a small number of horses compete
at the highly competitive rides (Pan-American and
International) and this is as it should be. There are
probably not over 50 truly elite horses in the world.
16. Also believed that anyone that feels they have a horse
capable of competing at that level should have within
our organization a venue to accomplish that.
17. Recognized that nothing stays the same, but at the
same time if we as board member are diligent in our
efforts we can keep this sport pure and should take every
opportunity to influence this purity around the world.
18. Felt that board members should maintain the highest
integrity of all and should not operate on half-truths
and inuendoes. We should lead by example. Of these
twenty items I think this one is probably the most
important.
19. Felt that we must listen to the membership but as
important to keep the memberships best interest in
mind. This does not always mean voting in a way that is
popular. Example, a board member may have information that
is critical in making a good decision when the membership
may not have that information.
20. Felt that WE MUST ALWAYS look for ways to protect the
horse. It is the other half of this pardnership and
it can't vote.
Also, those of you that know me might be interested -- Goose is still going
strong at 18 with just under 6000 miles, DannTana just got his 2000 mile
medalian (sp?) and I am getting a couple of other horses ready for the 2001
XP. I hope to see many of you there.
Sincerely,
Jim Baldwin
