Re: RC: Ortho Flex Saddle Question

To the guest asking about orthoflex saddles,
I have just joined Ridecamp and have been busy reading all of the articles and stories. I came to your question and finally I have something I can talk about. I have been in endurance riding for 31/2 years and out of those I have ridden in an Orthoflex Endurance Cutback for 2 years. I
absolutely love it and I believe my horse does too. I have a riding background of dressage and eventing and do not care much for the so-called endurance saddles that have a big pommel. I have to post and like the close contact with the horse. The only complaint I had about the saddle were the
stirrup straps and the cam-lock buckles. The buckles never stayed in place and ended up near my knees. I had another rider with the same problem tell me that she switched the stirrup straps with english stirrup leathers and that has worked great for me. I also made the mistake of getting Mag
lite stirrups at an extra charge. They weigh a ton and will crack your shins when carrying the saddle. I couldn't take my sore bruised shins anymore so I switched back to my E-Z Ride stirrups.
I have put about 1,000 endurance ride miles in the saddle and probably 2,500 miles of training at home in the saddle. This year I have had a great year and have been in the top ten in 50 mile rides 7 times. On the vet score for lesions producing pain and discomfort the worst score we
received in all 7 rides was a 9. That says a lot about your saddle and the way it fits your horse. So far the saddle has held up pretty well considering all the miles I have put in it. I just had to replace 2 of the girth billets and the original saddle pad and riding cloth.
So, after my long discussion about my saddle, I would say that the ortho-flex saddle is all that it claims to be and I would seriously consider it for your next saddle.
Please e-mail me if you have anymore questions. I know what a big decision it is because of the expense. If I could afford it I would have another one for a back-up.
