I think this is the crux of the issue - a child - much like an inexperienced 
rider - does not have the frame of reference to stay safe. I think of a few 
adults I know, some rather athletic, all inexperienced. Would I drag them 
along on a 25 miler? Nope - I value them as friends and loved ones. THEY 
might think it is fun and a lark but they don't KNOW what they are doing. 
Child or adult - inexperience has no place in horse-related sports.
