Goerge, my barn manager/caretaker of 14 years is gravely ill in ICU at the local hospital. He went to the ER on Sunday with abdominal pains and was in ICU by Monday morning on lots of pain meds for a probably bowel obstruction. He was operated on Monday night -- and coded in the OR twice before they could even start the surgery, necessitating bilateral chest tubes for a tension pneumothorax after the first code. They found several feet of dead bowel with a perforation when they did the laparotomy. He has been in ICU since then and has had substantial kidney failure and some liver damage since the surgery. He's on a lot of drips (drugs) and is now getting dialysis and blood and platelet transfusions. Still being kept very sedated and intubated altho they think he's responding to some commands when he wakes up. If they can hold off total systems failure and pneumonia, he might have a chance. He's only 53 and has a wife and a 13yo daughter -- and one dog, one cat, and 7 horses. Please send what healing vibes you can for George...he's been an awesome barn manager who has taken excellent care of all of the horses in my barn for a long time.
