Don't know how long ago the CA law went into effect (glad it did), but we
have a little quarterhorse that's an escapee from charro tripping. We were
told she was finally sold to the killers "when she wouldn't run anymore".
She came to us with some pretty horrible rope burns and scars on her legs,
covered with weeping sores and 200 pounds underweight, and still is carrying
some mental baggage, can't blame her. Amazing that she's as sweet and
trusting as she is, she's the "packer" around here for the kids and scared
beginners. But don't ever let a lead rope get tangled up in her legs.
We bought her (okay, on impulse and out of disgust) off the killer trucks in
I think '97 and those rope burns were fresh.
