Moving Mountains politics kind of long
Hi RC! I had a happy bit of news today. I've been trying to get our city to
put up horse crossing and trail courtesy signs for over a year. I have
talked to every human at City hall and then some. There is a lot of
development going up around here, and a lot of traffic including semis who
are working on the Dam up the canyon. The Dam Project. Add an "N". I've
also been trying to get the city to put in split rail fencing along a very
busy stretch. I think it helped when the little city newspaper did a story
about me (old 40 yr. woman) trying the Tevis (woman against
mountain-mountain wins this time)including scary trail picture. Then I was
quoted saying, "I think the trail up our road here is the most dangerous
thing I've been on". Especially when I almost got hit by a speeding Rabbit
(car) a la "Horse Whisperer." A city official called, sputtering,"well
we're trying to help, and you know how the press gets and yada yada" Today
I got called to the city. Gulp. I was presented with the blueprint and the
memo between the traffic engineer and parks people congratulating themselves
on their excellent idea of putting up FIVE horse crossing signs!! I was
hoping for two, and had so given up, I was just exhausted trying! Also they
are trying to move our trail easement to a safer spot, and if the property
owners object, they will then put up the split rail fencing (By next Summer
when the new budget year starts in June) Hooray! We have a lot of kids to
protect on this trail so I'm really glad, it'll help a lot of people for a
long time!
I guess you just have to keep hammering away at it!

The good fortune to run into the ones I do, and the eyesight to tell the
difference".
