RE: Re: Farm Information

I don't really know what would happen to a horse in the Gulf. I would
imagine that it might be sold to a more ordinary owner, assuming that there
are such things, or to a stable for tourism, like one attached to a hotel or
something. The countries in the Gulf area are very small in size, mostly
desert. There isn't a lot of forage or pastures and horses aren't used for
work there the way they are here. In Egypt horses might go to private owners
or stables or riding schools or even to work on a farm. I honestly don't
know much about how horses work in the Gulf if they are not part of a race
string. Apparently, there weren't any horses at all there until fairly
recently, according to a newspaper friend of mine. The people were either
nomads working with camels, sheep and goats with the odd horse or traders.
When there was more money horses were more popular, but he told me that
there had been some epidemic that virtually wiped out the horse population
about a generation ago. The resurgence of interest in riding has been fairly
recent and since they took control of oil revenues.

If a horse doesn't work out (goes lame, too slow, whatever),
what becomes of them?
